Dr Howe has a wide experience in helping people with many kinds of life crisis and personal problems. Crisis may develop at any time triggered be such diverse things as workplace issues, difficult children, marriage problems, retirement, illness, sexual or sleeping problems, conflict, shyness, anxiety, depression or grief to name a few.

What happens during a Counselling session ?

People often ask whether it is normal to feel overwhelmed or uncertain. Simply, the answer is "yes", most people experience such feelings at some time in their lives. nevertheless there ar ways to manage your life better by changing what you do and how you think. Dr Howe can help you to implement change strategies so that you feel better and cope more effectively with the challenges in you life. often, in talking things over, you find strengths and creative solutions that provide steps to recovery.

Before the first meeting with a psychologist, many people feel nervous, embarrassed or worried. these feelings usually disappear quickly once you meet and begin to work cooperatively on ways of managaing your situation. in fact, taling confidentially with a cousellor is often easier that expected because you are relived that you are not burdening the people you love. The focus of your sessions is first to help you understand how your problems are impacting your own and others lives, and then to develop skills and strategies to deal with them. This practical approach means tha ta  lot can be achieved in a short time.

Is the treatment based on research evidence ?

People sometimes wonder whether they are receiving the best treatment.  Dr Howe is an eclectic therapist able to work from a range of perspectives including congitive behavier therapy, interperaon therapy, sports psychology, medical hypnosis, biofeedback and life skills coaching. the approaches used have all been research-tested in University studies. you are able to discuss these approaches and decide what is most comfortable for you.

Is it confidential ?

All information discussed during consultations with Dr Howe is confidential. nay notes or materials collected in session are stored privately and securely. However, if during your contact with the practise, the possibility of life threatening risk emerged, some details would be released to relevant professionals. if your employer is paying for your consultation with Dr Howe, some feedback about your attendance will be provided.
